Census of Persons, Families, Land and Assets Concluded Successfully
HKND Group hosted a recognition ceremony on October 16, 2014 in the auditorium of the Secretariat of the Presidency (SEPRES) to announce the successful conclusion of the “Census of Persons, Families and Assets Attached to Land, Directly Benefited by the Construction of the Nicaragua Canal Project” (the Census), to recognize the work of each member of the census team and to acknowledge the strong support of the Nicaragua Canal and Development Project Commission (the Canal Commission), government institutions and all relevant sectors of society.
The total land area surveyed was over 1,600 square kilometers, and more than 7,000 families were investigated. It was a joint effort of more than 400 people of the Changjiang Institute of Survey, Planning, Design and Research Co., Ltd. (CISPDR), the Attorney General's Office (PGR), the Directorate General of Revenue (DGI) and the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (Ineter), among others.
Zhu Xiaoya, Assistant to CEO of HKND Group, said in his speech that in the last few months, researchers overcame many difficulties such as poor weather conditions, disease, hunger, difficult natural environment, insect bites, threats of poisonous snakes and ferocious crocodiles, and at times misunderstanding and lack of cooperation from some people, and accomplished a great job on this socioeconomic census.
Zhu Xiaoya said: "The Census provides scientific data on the acquisition or leasing of land and relocation of the Integrated Canal Project, laying a solid foundation for the execution of the project."
Mr. Laureano Ortega and Mr. Hernán Estrada, members of the Canal Commission, also delivered warm speeches. They fully recognized and appreciated the professionalism and dedication of the investigators when executing with seriousness the tasks of the census.
Mr. Laureano Ortega said: "When we are working on the project, we work with love and we are working for the future of our nation. The Nicaragua Canal and Development Project Commission and HKND Group are grateful to the Chinese experts and those from the Government, and many others of each department and each district who actively supported this work. We thank the nation. We will make sure that the project benefits all Nicaraguans.”
Mr. Hernán Estrada, Attorney General, said in his speech: "We are proud that we have fully and duly accomplished this great mission. We had no casualties and no desertion. This is an historic mission and one of the most important tasks that our government has accomplished. "
A representative of CISPDR also gave an emotional speech.
At the ceremony, senior officials of the Canal Commission and top managers of HKND Group presented to all researchers diplomas that were jointly issued and signed by Manuel Coronel Kautz, President of the Canal Commission, and Wang Jing, Chairman and CEO of HKND Group.
The next step for HKND is to work closely with the Canal Commission on the basis of this census report, make proper arrangements for the start-up project of the Canal Project in December this year and ensure the orderly implementation of subsequent projects.
The construction of the Grand Canal that transcends history and unites the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans is impending. The ship, that carries the centennial dream of Nicaraguans to build the Canal to benefit the nation and generations to come, will set sail soon.
"Every journey of a thousand miles begins with one step," the construction of the Grand Canal of Nicaragua will be a major work with great challenges, a new landmark building in the history of mankind. We will continue working closely with the Canal Commission, contractors and the Nicaraguan people to fulfill the historic mission in a down-to-earth manner.
