Bill Wild, Chief Project Advisor

Over his 40-year career, Bill Wild has been a recognized leader in the global contracting industry and has headed up major construction organizations, joint ventures and alliances with distinction. He has successfully managed profitable infrastructure projects and businesses in construction and mining contracting; civil, mining and mechanical engineering; and building waste management.

In regards to the overall management of the Nicaragua canal development project, Mr. Wild focuses on building a world-class team that can deliver this truly historic project. Mr. Wild served as Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer of Leighton Holdings Limited, one of the world’s leading international contractors operating in more than 25 countries in Asia, the Middle East, Southern Africa and throughout Australia and New Zealand. Mr. Wild started his professional career with a Government road authority for five years, and worked continuously with the Leighton Group for 36 years from 1975 until June 2011 with a short sabbatical in 1979. He spent nine years running the Hong Kong business (1988 – 1997); two years with responsibility for the Thiess mining business in Indonesia and on preliminary work for the establishment of a Thiess business in Latin America (1997 – 1998); and extended periods in Asia and India in his role with Leighton Holdings. Mr. Wild has extensive experience with all forms of contract delivery and of working in major international joint ventures and alliances. Mr. Wild spent much of the last 20 years establishing new businesses or rebuilding business operations within the Leighton Group. He started its waste management business; headed up the turnaround of its John Holland subsidiary and the Transfield Construction acquisition; managed development and growth of the business into new markets in Asia; and he lead iconic construction projects such as Australia’s Alice Springs to Darwin trans-national railway line. Mr. Wild has demonstrated consistently his ability to identify talent and to build strong management teams of high-caliber individuals who work effectively together. He has also demonstrated his capacity to develop strong and lasting relationships with other business stakeholders and has a strong network of contacts and relationships across all the areas of the contracting industry. Mr. Wild has been widely recognized for his achievements in the safety aspect of the construction industry.
