Prensa Latina: The aerial survey along the route of Nicaragua Canal resumes
Managua, October 10 (PL) The concessionaire of the Nicaragua Interoceanic Canal Project, HKND Group from Hong Kong, China, announced the approval from the government on the resumption of the aerial survey along the proposed route of the interoceanic waterway.
According to a statement of the company, the recommencement of the aerial works comprises the component of LiDAR (detection and distance measurement by light) of the survey, which will use a specialized plane to fly at three thousand feet above ground.
The concessionaire declared that the company contracted for the LiDAR survey is unrelated to the “company contracted for the aerial geophysical survey that is associated with the aircraft incident (which resulted in the fatality of the Canadian pilot Grant Atkinson), whose investigation is currently underway”.
The statement mentioned that the geophysical survey component is currently suspended due to the aircraft incident occurred on October 2, in the southern department of Rivas.
HKND Group and CSA Global, which is in charge of the study, are currently collaborating with the Nicaraguan authorities to investigate the cause of the incident, says the statement, adding that further details will be announced as they are made available.
Both companies are also working closely with all the involved parties to “ensure that the family, friends and colleagues affected by the tragedy are provided the support required through this difficult time”, the statement concludes.
