HKND Group Engages Nicaraguan Drilling Company RODIO-Swissboring and CSA Global of Australia to Conduct Detailed Soil Investigation for the Access Channel and Port on the Pacific Side
On April 28th 2016, HKND Group, concessionaire of the Nicaragua Interoceanic Grand Canal project, has entered into an agreement with RODIO-Swissboring Nicaragua S.A., a Nicaraguan drilling company to perform a detailed physical Soil Investigation Program for the Brito Access Channel and Port area on the Pacific side. The same day in the headquarters in Hong Kong, HKND Group has signed another agreement with international geological company CSA Global of Australia for project management and geological reporting. This is a necessary pre-construction step for the Brito Access Channel and Brito Port.
The Soil Investigation Program to be carried out by RODIO-Swissboring, a Nicaraguan registered company, covers the Brito Access Channel and Port area, from the canal pacific entrance reaching 4.5 KM inland, and is planned to comprise approximately 2,280m of HQ core drilling with holes ranging in depth from 30-50m. The core samples will be analyzed at series of independent laboratories, and the data gathered will be used by CSA Global to create a material model map for design, engineering and construction of the Brito Access Channel and Port.
“The Soil Investigation Program is necessary to identify in more detail the geology, geotechnical features, hazards and material properties along the canal corridor. The information, taken together, will assist us to optimize the design in geotechnical risk assessment terms and to improve the accuracy of our cost estimation and works scheduling,” stated Chief Project Advisor of HKND Group, Bill Wild.
