HKND Group Received the Gold Bauhinia Award, Hong Kong's Highest Honor in Recognition of its Remarkable Business Contribution 2016-8-12 16:57

On the occasion of the 19th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the Motherland, 2016 “Bauhinia Award” Hospitable Hong Kong • Remarkable Business Contribution Award Ceremony was held at Four Seasons Hotel Grand Ballroom on 10 August 2016. HK Nicaragua Canal Development Investment Co., Limited (HKND Group) received the highest honor - the Gold Bauhinia Award. Pang Kwok Wai, Executive Vice President of HKND Group, accepted the award on behalf of the company and delivered a speech on “One Belt, One Road” and Hong Kong’s future development. 

Gregory So Kam-leung, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of Hong Kong, Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee, member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong and Co-chair of Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS), IP Kwok-him, Executive Council member and Hong Kong deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC) of the People's Republic of China were present at the ceremony as guest-of-honour. Over 20 guests, including members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Hong Kong deputies to the NPC, members of the Legislative Council, officials from the government and related bodies, political and business leaders, officiated at the ceremony, which was attended by hundreds of representatives from various industries and organizations. 

During the 2016 “Bauhinia Award” ceremony, a total of 36 awards were given out to organizations from 15 industry sectors, including financial services, public energy and infrastructures, public transportation, retail and themed attractions. Among those awarded, five companies, including Bank of China (Hong Kong) of financial services sector, PricewaterhouseCoopers Hong Kong of professional services sector and HKND Group of public energy and infrastructures sector, were granted with Gold Bauhinia Awards, the highest honor. Besides, Remarkable Bauhinia Awards, Outstanding Bauhinia Awards and Bauhinia Awards were granted to 31 other corporations and organizations, among which, Hong Kong Commerce and Industry Associations was recognized for launching the All Shopping H.K. campaign.  

Being the most magnificent award ceremony with the widest industry coverage held in Hong Kong this year, the 2016 “Bauhinia Award” ceremony aims to recognize and appreciate remarkable contributions of corporations and organizations from 15 industry sectors in establishing the hospitable image of Hong Kong and promoting the city’s economic and social development. The award ceremony provides an ideal opportunity to present Hong Kong as a dynamic city that carries the true spirit of inclusiveness, friendliness, sincerity, stability and open-mindedness.

Gregory So Kam-leung, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of Hong Kong, stated that it was a great honor for him to be invited to the “Bauhinia Award” ceremony, and give commendations, alongside representatives from various industry sectors, to outstanding Hong Kong-based companies. As a service-oriented economy, Hong Kong must exert both hard and soft power in order to stand out from the intense global competition. Apart from the hardware facilities built by HK Government to brand Hong Kong as Asia’s World City, the soft power of a “Hospitable Hong Kong” shall also be forged through the joint efforts of all industries in order to achieve continuous economic growth.

Pang expressed his gratitude to the host organizations for granting HKND Group the Gold Bauhinia Award, the highest honor in recognition of its remarkable business contribution. He said the company choosing to set up its headquarters in Hong Kong had taken full consideration the city’s pioneer advantages in international finance, shipping, trade, professional services, etc. HKND Group is committed to implement the Nicaragua Grand Canal Project in strict compliance with international best practices in terms of environmental protection and so forth. 

Pang said HKND Group is partnering with prestigious names in the world to jointly build “the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road”. As a forerunner in this area, the company has many experiences to share with friends in the business circle.

“Hong Kong is the world's freest economy. The Gold Bauhinia Award granted to HKND Group represents that the great significance of the “Belt and Road” policy and the values of strategic business opportunities brought by the “One Belt One Road” initiative have gained fully recognition from Hong Kong communities.” He affirmed that as an international company rooted in Hong Kong, HKND Group will continue to seek and create new opportunities to contribute to the development and prosperity of this hospitable city.    

2016 “Bauhinia Award” Hospitable Hong Kong • Remarkable Business Contribution Award Ceremony was hosted by CNC Holdings Limited, a Hong Kong-listed company owned by Xinhua News Agency, and organized by MCM Marketing Strategy & Communications Co., Limited.

It is noteworthy that the Bauhinia flower (also called Hong Kong orchid) is the floral symbol of this city and appears on the flag of Hong Kong.
