HKND Group Sponsors the Second Puccini Festival of Latin America
On 14 March 2017, the Second Puccini Festival of Latin America took place in Nicaragua. This great lyrical event that will be held during this week is sponsored by HKND Group, the concessionaire of the Nicaragua Interoceanic Grand Canal Project.
The festival is organized by INCANTO Foundation and Fondazione Festival Pucciniano (Puccini Festival Foundation) of Italy. During the first four days, more than a hundred of Nicaraguan and Italian artists will delight the audience with the staging of the opera Tosca and Madame Butterfly at Rubén Darío National Theatre in Managua. Two master concerts will be featured at Granada and León, the two Nicaraguan colonial cities.
"We are honoured to participate as sponsor at the Second Puccini Festival as part of our contribution to the cultural development of Nicaragua, one of the pillars of our Corporate Social Responsibility program," said HKND Group.
The realization of this festival "also allows strengthening the international projection of Nicaragua in the cultural and artistic field, and training of high-level singers in the country. We hope this event will be a great success,” the company expressed.
"It is the first Puccini Festival in Latin America. All this work gives Nicaragua a higher level within the lyrical art and with this we can become part of the universal culture,” said Alberto San José, President of INCANTO. “However, the opera, being such a complete and complex show, is very expensive. Without the sponsorship of institutions and companies, it is very difficult to perform opera on regular basis."
“It will be wonderful to have cultural exchanges with Asian countries through the efforts of foreign companies such as HKND Group,” he said. “I have seen a Chinese production of the opera Turandot, which was wonderful. I was fascinated. We are aware that there are agreements on lyrical art of China with Italy, Cuba and other countries. Then, it would be delightful if we could collaborate with Chinese artists,” said Alberto San José.
Ramón Rodríguez, General Manager of Rubén Darío National Theater, stated: “Nicaragua has become a cultural reference for Central America. Little by little, the operatic tradition is built. We are happy to see that this tradition is growing and achieving popularity.”
For his part, Alberto Veronesi, President of Fondazione Festival Pucciniano, considered that this festival “opens a way for the training of singers and the promotion of opera in Nicaragua. This event is a festival of music, a celebration of friendship, but above all, it is the confirmation that today it is possible to write new pages in the cultural history of the world.”
Located in the heart of Central America, Nicaragua has favorable geographic conditions to connect the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, as well as to link North and South America regions. Thus, different cultures from all over the world converge on this land, small in territory, but rich in tradition and customs.
HKND Group, which is assuming the responsibility of building the Nicaragua Grand Canal, is a privately-held international infrastructure development firm headquartered in Hong Kong. HKND Group has the sole right to plan, design, build, and subsequently, operate and manage the Nicaragua Grand Canal and other potential projects, including ports, free zone, international airport and other infrastructure development projects.
Currently, HKND Group is working with industry-leading companies to conduct all kinds of works for the Canal reference design, including Canal and ports operation plans, lock design, excavation plan and logistics planning, among others.
The construction of the Nicaragua Grand Canal will provide an important alternative commercial route for the vessels that navigate between East and West. After the completion of this "commercial artery", not only will the goods be transported through Nicaragua, but entrepreneurs, academics, artists and travelers from all over the world will also bring cultural enrichment to the country and later they will spread Nicaraguan culture around the world. In this context, the prosperity and the momentum of Nicaraguan culture will never cease to grow.
Apart from sponsoring cultural development in Nicaragua, HKND Group has developed corporate social responsibility program in other sectors, creating a sustainable model of enterprise development. HKND Group has carried out projects on reforestation, and rescue and protection of cultural relics along the Canal route. Besides, the company has also sponsored sporting events and strengthened cultural exchanges between China and Nicaragua.
In July 2016, HKND Group launched an educational tree planting activity in around 80 primary and secondary schools in three municipality of Rivas Department. A total of 3,000 students and about 160 principals and teachers participated in this activity, which was designed to raise the environmental awareness through theoretical training and hands-on experience. Besides, 15,000 students from the entire Rivas Department were included in reforestation training.
In addition, HKND Group is determined to support the sports development in Nicaragua.
